Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is the Rural Utility Services (RUS) project?
Socket was chosen by the RUS to build a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to more than 3,000 homes and businesses across Callaway County and parts of Boone County.

What services are going to be provided?
Services available will include high-speed Internet, television, local and long-distance telephone services. The first services available will be Internet and phone bundles - including packages with download speeds of 10 Mbps, 20 Mbps, and 30 Mbps. As future technologies mature, we hope to bring telemedicine, distance learning and home security platforms to our users.

How will the areas in Callaway and Boone County be served?
Residents, businesses, and community anchor institutions in rural eastern Boone County, western-central Callaway county and parts of Fulton, MO.

How does construction progress?

  • First, we will bury the fiber-optic lines and hand-hold boxes along the roadways.
  • Next, we will install fiber-optic lines from the road to the homes and businesses.
  • And lastly, we will activate the fiber-optic lines with service.

How long will it take?
Construction is expected to be completed in 2012.

What services will be delivered over the fiber-optic network that Socket is building?
Socket will provide access to high-speed Internet, local and long-distance telephone service and television services. The first packages to become available will be broadband + phone bundles. Television services will come at a later date.

Why was this region of the state chosen?
The project area was chosen based on its mix of homes that are unserved or underserved for high-speed Internet.

What are the prices and speed packages?
Please view the residential speeds and pricing for our Home Phone + Internet bundles at www.socket.net/fiber/plans.
